For smoother, firmer and younger-looking skin many women and men turn to wrinkle-fighting neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin.

These cosmetic products are renowned all over the globe and predominantly recognized for their ability to reduce facial lines and creases and moreover help patients combat the signs of aging.

While some patients and injectors have a personal preference for one brand over another, they’re all safe as well as effective with some variations.

So, which of these is right for you? Before you make any decision here is what you need to know about Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin treatments in Turkey and Barrington.

How do neurotoxins work?

Botox(r) Cosmetic, Dysport(r) and Xeomin(r) Aesthetic are brand names for botulinum toxin and are considered neuromodulators. All three are used as cosmetic injections to block nerve impulses and prevent muscle contraction.

Facial muscles, after temporary deactivation, limit the facial expressions responsible for the development and deepening of wrinkles. Therefore, many patients turn to these treatments to improve existing lines and prevent future wrinkles from forming.

What Aesthetic Concerns Can They Treat?

These neurotoxins are FDA approved to reduce forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet and fine lines. In the hands of a skilled and experienced injector like Dr. Dhaval Patel, they can also be used off-label to treat neck wraps, chin dimples, pucker at the corners of the mouth, and a stretchy smile.

The Botox Cosmetic brand uses botulinum toxin A to temporarily reduce “the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe wrinkles, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults to help them look visibly smoother.” It is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Cosmetic Benefits

The cosmetic use of botulinum toxin injections continues to skyrocket. The introduction of small doses of this toxin into certain muscles of the face or neck causes temporary paralysis of these muscles. This paralysis results in a reduction in lines and wrinkles.

The onset of paralysis is 48-72 hours and peaks after about 7 days. However, it may take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect of the injection. This paralysis will last from 2 to 6 months.

Botulinum toxin is naturally produced in combination with various protective proteins. These proteins can cause the body to produce antibodies to target and destroy the toxin, rendering them ineffective. The compositions of Botox, and Dysport contain these proteins, so in patients with antibodies, the use of this type of injection will be ineffective.

Xeomin, on the other hand, is a “naked botulinum toxin” with no protective protein. Therefore, Xeomin does not induce antibody production and can be used in patients with antibodies to Botox or Dysport.

Botox vs Dysport vs Xeomin vs Jeuveau? Which toxin is right for you?

Botulinum toxin was the first FDA-approved toxin and remains the most popular botulinum toxin type A preparation.

The onset of action after Botox is approximately 72 hours. This toxin retains protective proteins that can induce antibodies and render treatment ineffective. Early Botox preparations were more likely to produce antibodies. The duration of action of a Botox injection is about 3 months, but in some patients it can be longer up to 6 months.

Comparing Neurotoxins

It has since been licensed to treat forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet (in addition to all of its off-label uses). With a molecular weight of 900 kDa, Allergan creates botulinum toxin type A with protective proteins against which some patients may develop antibodies over time, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.

The inactive ingredients of Botox® include human albumin (i.e. there is also a therapeutic version of the product that can be used to treat ailments such as migraines, excessive sweating, and eye spasms to name but a few), but as far as aesthetics are concerned, the average cost per unit is about $6 for a doctor, and the number of units administered will depend on the area being treated.

Results—The Botox results are effective but not permanent.

It takes three to five days for results to appear after treatment (although it may take up to two weeks for the final effect to be seen) and in most for patients, it lasts from three to four months. The duration of action depends on everything from how the patient’s body absorbs the product to the area being treated.

Dysport is slightly more potent than Botox because of its molecular weight. Although they all contain the same 150 kDa BoNT-A, the protective protein array in Dysport® is not as homogeneous as in Botox®. As a result, Dysport® has a faster diffusion rate, making it ideal for treating large areas such as foreheads, although more product may be required to achieve results.

However, the cost is usually comparable to Botox®. Like Botox®, it contains human albumin, while Dysport® also contains lactose and milk proteins, making it unsuitable for patients with milk allergies.  You can get  dysport treatment from the best dysport specialist in Turkey Institute of Plastic Surgery.

Though the results of the Dysport injectable treatment may show up sooner than Botox, and few studies have also shown that they might not last long.

The shorter lifespan may make it a good choice for patients who are not sure if they will appreciate the results of BoNT-A injections.

Hoping this newbie will prove to be a worthy competitor to Botox®, as both products are 900 kDa, contain human albumin and sodium chloride, and produce similar results. But with a price 20-30% lower than Botox® and marketing campaigns primarily aimed at millennials, it would seem that Jeuveau® is trying to carve out a niche of its own among patients.

Results—Clinical data is limited because of the newness of the product, but trials and studies have shown JEUVEAU injectable to have a similar safety and efficacy profile to Botox.

The third botulinum toxin A, Xeomin, is an injectable prescription that blocks “the release of chemicals that cause those muscle contractions to soften wrinkles.” It has also been approved by the FDA for “temporarily improving the appearance of moderate to severe brow wrinkles with wrinkle-pulling and/or growth-inducing muscle activity.”

Results—Results from Xeomin approximately take 5-7 days to become visible and last for a similar amount of time.

The Takeaway

As you can notice, that each of the 4 neurotoxins have similar safety and efficacy profiles, but with subtle variations that might make one a better option for your specific needs. It should be noted that, in addition to the use of injectable drugs, patients must follow an individual skin care regimen.
