Overview: Today, Brazilian Butt Lift/ BBL/ Gluteoplasty is one of the most sought-after plastic surgery procedures that are being done worldwide.
Using your own body fat, you can carefully and artistically alter the size, shape, and fullness of your “behind,” giving you beautifully natural-looking results. The unique benefit of this technique is that not only does it bulk up the posterior, it slims down areas where you have extra body fat and wish to appear more lean.
Most of the patients at CI plastic surgery clinic in Chicago elect to get the fat cut away from the belly and the area around their waist, which results in curves in all the right places.

Using liposuction, extra fat is extracted from specific areas of the body and transferred to the buttocks to create a lifted, fuller, and rounder look.
Typically, we extract the fat from the lower back, Love handles, and stomach, and use that to contour the upper portion of butt, often on the sides as well. Also, enhancing your butt is a good way to thin out and cut away the areas of excess fat, while building up areas you want to add.
Many of our patients benefit from liposuction surgery procedures used with a butt augmentation, to reduce the fat in the belly, the area around their waist, and the hips, and move it into the butt, giving them that nice hourglass shape they always wanted.
Do you want a rounder, taller, more defined butt? Have you tried targeted exercises and supportive clothing, yet are not getting the results you desire.
The Brazilian Butt Lift, which uses your own body fat and includes both tummy enhancement and butt contouring, is an amazing way to get a fuller, tighter, and more defined lower body. It also helps to create a more pleasant balance of the shape, size, and contours of the buttocks, proportionately with the rest of the body.
Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Safe?
As a plastic surgeon that has performed this body contouring procedure for more than 20 years, Dr. Dhaval Patel can safely say yes, when done correctly, in the right environment, with the right patients, the procedure is safe.
To prevent any adverse outcomes for his patients, he does all surgeries at an advanced, state-of-the-art facility /plastic surgery clinic in Chicago and other states of the U.S.
How It is Performed?
During Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery, we use liposuction to remove the excess fat in specific areas of your body, transferring it into your gluteal region, giving you a taller, plumper, and rounder bottom. We can also trim and sculpt where you have excess fat, while building the areas you want to be more full.
Since that fat is coming from your own body, there is no chance it will go unchecked. Also, there is no foreign object or substance being placed in your body in the BBL, so there is no risk of the implants breaking down or dislodging.
Top 10 Important Questions to ask before BBL
A Brazilian Buttlift is a transformational, potentially life-changing surgery, which is why it is important that you get as much information as possible before the procedure.
If you are considering this body contouring procedure but are not sure which questions to ask during your first consultation, here are some suggestions.
1. How do I know if I am a good candidate for BBL?
You have to be healthy enough to have any type of plastic surgery. The ideal way to know if BBL is right for you is to consult with an experienced Brazilian Butt Lift Surgeon, but in most of the cases, you can be a good candidate if you:
· Have lost significant amounts of weight, and now your butt now sags and droops.
· Are overweight and have been unable to lose weight with exercise and changes to diet.
· Have normal weight, but wish to drastically improve your lower body image.
· At normal weight, but skin does not tighten up after the liposuction because of age-related elasticity. Unhappy with overall shape and lack of butt-firmness.
2. What is the difference between BBLs and Butt implants?
The main difference is in the amount of body fat. A BBL is a procedure that involves fat transfers, so if you only have small deposits of fat, you might not be a BBL candidate, and you would need to opt for implants instead. A BBLs main benefit is the fact that it uses your own body fat, which is highly formed, so the procedure can be tailored to achieve each patient’s desired result.
Fat can be placed in specific areas where a buildup is needed, including your thighs. In addition, liposuction surgery can also be performed simultaneously with the BBL, giving additional roundness, shape, and curves to the buttocks. Unlike with a BBL, BBL results are not limited by the sizes and shapes of implants available, and a BBL is less invasive than insertion of buttock implants.
3. Do I have to put on or lose weight before my procedure?
While this will vary for each individual, you are best off being several pounds above your ideal weight prior to having BBL surgery. The important factor is once you gain the weight to get the BBL, you will have to keep the weight at the same level afterward in order to keep your results.
4. How many Brazilian Butt Lift surgeries have you done?
You definitely don’t want your plastic surgeon “practicing” on you and your butt. The concerned surgeon must have performed hundreds of successful butt-augmentation procedures, ideally over 10 years or longer.
Ask to see before-and-after pictures (untouched) and, if possible, for a variety of body types: slim, average, and heavy. This will show the surgeon has experience working with all different body types, as well as allow you to pick the type of body that you identify with.
5. Where would my fat be extracted from?
Generally, I will extract the fat from my lower back, “love handles” and belly, and use that to contour my upper and sides, as well as the hips.
6. How much scarring would it be?
We try to keep the amount of scarring as low as possible. For a BBL, you will have little scars around your buttocks area and in your abdomen area (about 4mm).
We tried to hide as many as possible, and performed the majority of my surgeries in areas where they were hidden. Sometimes post-surgery scars are raised, sometimes they are darker, sometimes you cannot see them at all. It totally depends on how your body is healing individually.
7. How long will the results last?
The fat that we are going to inject into your body is either transferable, or it is graftable, like skin grafts. That fat does not disappear–BBL is a procedure with very long lasting results. On average, you can expect around 50% of your fat injections to remain in the area, with around 50% being reabsorbed back into the body. That is why I always do additional fat transfers.
8. How long does it take to heal from BBLs? Will I be able to sit?
We advice our patients absolutely not to sit at all for up to six weeks after their procedure.
After this, you may want to sit on a bum pillow (nursing pad) to keep you sitting on your hips instead of on your ass. There are even chairs specifically designed for sitting without sitting on your buttocks.
9. Can I return to normal exercises after BBL?
We absolutely encourage our patients to do some exercises after their BBL procedure.
However, we would not expect anyone to engage in too much cardio, as this could result in losing fat as they move. To raise heart rate but still keep results, we would suggest doing squats, lunges, calisthenics: exercises that provide good training that may even improve results.
10. When can I return to work after BBL?
People usually can return to work approximately a week after their procedure. What seems to work best for our patients is taking their boppy Pillow with them into the office to use it on their work chair.
