Does Non-Invasive Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is one of the most widely practiced plastic surgeries in the industry and one of the most popular procedures at Bella Cosmetic Surgery. The popularity of the procedure nationwide has led to the appearance of a variety of “non-invasive” liposuction procedures.

The notion of a non-invasive liposuction is a bit counter intuitive. It’s like calling something a non-invasive surgery. Liposuction is a procedure that actively removes fat from targeted areas of the body, mostly in hard-to-target areas around the waist, thighs, arms, back, and neck. CoolSculpting, a laser-powered treatment, targets these same areas, though the mode of action is quite different.

By releasing beams of highly concentrated light, these non-invasive procedures are said to melt away fat cells, reducing cellulite and the appearance of fat in certain areas.

The question that remains, however, is how safe is it?

There have been reports of necrosis and other complications, and some effects may not be known yet as these procedures are very new. For the time being, it seems advisable to wait for technology to catch up with the procedure. Doctors performing traditional liposuction may be better prepared to deal with the possible complications. Because the claims of CoolSculpting creators and practitioners have still not been verified by the medical community in the United States, it’s impossible to say whether or not it works for every patient.
